I Finally Grew My Own Food with an Aquaponics System
Nov 5th
I have been living with my aunt for the past 5 years, and I was staying on the couch for a long portion of that. There have been many days when I woke up and had dog hair in my mouth, since she has 5 dogs, and they are always around. I even remember cooking a steak in a frying pan that had been in the freezer for maybe a year, and I was thinking at the time that I was lucky to even have that. As it turns out, I was having a hard time managing my money, and I was far from being self-sufficient. I read a lot of self help books, and ended up starting my own organic garden. I set up an aquaponics system where the fish feed the plants and the plants keep the water clean for the fish. It is really inexpensive, and I used a lot of household materials to build it that didn’t cost me a thing. I am so happy that I have my own self-sustaining food source, and I feel fantastic.
My Business Success
Oct 30th
The world of business is a tough place to be, it takes hours, days, weeks and many years of hard work in order to create a success of your livelyhood. I’ve been in the gardening trade for over 20 years now and have been a keen gardener ever since I was a little kid, I was forever helping my father with his weekly gardening maintenance and it rubbed off on me.
I absolutely love the feeling of having an accomplished and gorgeous looking garden, plus the whole idea behind gardening really gives me some form of excitement – I can’t explain it, it’s just flowing through my veins. When I first started in the world of gardening professionally I didn’t know a lot about, however thanks to my own experiences and, later on in life, websites such as ALM (click here) i’ve gained the knowledge that will allow me to keep and maintain a healthy looking garden.
Entertaining is big in our houshold and every summer we host numerous parties and barbeques, so having a garden that looks stunning is a must have for me.

The invention of green houses has led to successful agricultural development in various parts of the world. Though a lot of people have grown plants to sell in the market; others practice gardening either as a hobby or to grow their own foods. The Easiest Fruit Tree to Grow
Aug 14th
Planting lemon trees is a great way to help the worlds environment and the lemons that are produced have incredible heath benefits. The first and most important factor in growing lemon trees is location. These trees must be grown in areas where there is not chance of getting below freezing. Lemon trees can be destroyed by frost. Usually a mild frost that does not last long will kill off the fruit, but tree will survive; however, a lemon tree cannot live through a winter climate. Lemon trees can be grown directly from the seeds of a lemon. You need only a dry soil that has all of the nutrients that a lemon tree needs. You may need to add fertilizer to the soil after the seed sprout. This type of citrus plant can be grown indoors. Unlike orange trees that needs lots of heat, an indoor lemon tree can flourish. You need to make sure that your are growing a tree that is not too larges. The largest of these can reach over twenty feet.
An Outdoor Room of My Own
Jul 8th
Having parented three active boys over the last twenty one years, my backyard was more about raising athletes than raising a lawn and garden. It’s seen parties and training sessions galore. The event tents and outside gyms have done some damage, but nothing permanent.
Now that the youngest is sixteen, and the home run derbies are infrequent, I am thinking about landscaping my backyard. Of particular interest to me is an area to cook and grill, and an area to sit and relax. Come to think about it, a place to stretch out and snooze sounds good, too: hammock, anyone? The yard is small and slopes a bit, so that will provide some challenges. There is already an established perennial garden, albeit a little shaggy, so we can build on that. I am thinking about a brick patio, with a retaining wall at one end to help level the area near the garden. A corner for grilling would need a built in brick “pantry”, with a preparation counter. A table and some chairs would fit into the area to allow for al fresco dining and conversation. A nice finishing touch would be a multipurpose plant potting and display shelf on the outer edge. It is time to get those three sons digging and laying some brick so we all can enjoy a summer oasis.
Why Do We Need Tick Control?
May 28th
Ticks are blood-sucking parasites that pose a threat to anyone’s health. These parasites can often be found on its hosts, sucking blood for survival. They are small and rounded with eight legs. Dogs are the most preferred hosts of a tick and they can be carried indoors by our pets. However, this does not mean that they will not also prey on human.
A tick will attach itself to any vertebrae, as a matter of fact. There are a lot of cases wherein ticks are found in a human, usually in the head and toes. One shouldn’t take tick lightly. As small as it may seem, it carries Lyme disease and other serious diseases. Lyme disease was first recognized and reported in Lyme, Connecticut around 1975. Spirochete, a bacterium, is said to be the cause of this disease. Lyme disease are said to affect humans and pet dogs. There are reported cases of wildlife being affected, as well. A person infected with Lyme disease will develop a flu-like symptom and will have a rash that has the same shape as a bull’s eye. Since the symptoms mimic that of flu, Lyme disease is often left untreated and can pose a serious health problem sooner or later. We can never know when or where a tick will attack us, but it always pays to have the know-how about these parasites. Knowledge is one of the most effective tick control. If not feeding, a tick will detach itself to its host. You will often find them in a safe location. Anywhere that can leave them undetected.
They are often found on the tiniest nooks and crannies, behind baseboards, windows and door moldings or in furniture. Pets are the number one carrier of ticks inside the house and it will help if we pay a close attention to them. There are products right now that can be used against ticks and are safe to your pets. They can come in soaps, shampoos etc. Keeping your lawn in tip top shape can also help. Regular mowing of the grass, trimming or removal or bushes can help keep the ticks away.

Bells of Ireland
Feb 19th
I find that Bells of Ireland, Malucella Laevis, or Irish Green Bellflower is a very interesting and curious annual to grow. They are one of my favorite plants to use as a part of my landscaping ideas for small yards. It is planted in a row right in the vegetable garden and even so you will notice its delicate colored green leaves.
It belongs to the mint family and the branching stems grow to a height of about two feet. The flowers appear very suddenly, growing so thick there is little room for leaves. The bell-shaped, calyx is green and slightly veined and it contains a pure white corolla. While growing the flowers and leaves seem to be the same color.
Bells of Ireland can be used for both summer and winter bouquets. If you plan to use them for a winter bouquet all the leaves should be picked off, leaving the bells. Split the end of each stalk and soak the stems in a solution of two parts water to one part glycerine. It should be soaked for about two weeks. The bells when preserved will be a soft tan color.
A nice dried arrangement may be made of these bells and some brilliant colored berry or the bright orange love-apple.

What Kinds of Termites Are Dangerous to Your Home?
Oct 17th
Not every kind of termite is a threat to your home, but most people tend to think that all termites are pests. This is a fallacy that needs to be corrected. Out of almost 3000 species of termites out there, less than 5% are put into the pest category by insect experts. The two types of termites which have a much higher chance of being pests, are subterranean termites and drywood termites.
Besides these two, the other types are only nominal pests at most, and most of them you will probably not see in your lifetime. Subterranean termites are those termites that nest underground within soil, whereas drywood termites are those that nest inside of wood that is dry.
If you suspect you have either of these two types of termites in your home area, it is best to call a termite exterminator that can inspect your home and determine what is the best treatment method to deal with them.
Cooking With Chervil
Jul 27th
The Chervil Herb is a mild, soft leafy herb, which looks similar to flat leaf parsley. The leaves are a little more delicate than parsley, as is its thin, fine stem. Chervil is a little less common than other soft herbs of a similar variety, but if you can’t find it in the shops, why not try growing it at home?
Cooking with the Chervil Herb is easy – the finely chopped leaves lend themselves to many different dishes, particularly in French cuisine. It has a mild, slightly aniseed flavour, and is part of the French herb mixture fines herbes. The leaves should always be added towards the end of cooking, as with all soft herbs, to preserve their delicate flavour and to prevent them from turning bitter in flavour.
Chervil can be used to give freshness and depth of flavour to mild chicken and seafood dishes. It is also a great ingredient for a classic French herb omelette, when combined with other soft herbs such as parsley and tarragon.
Landscaping: Get A Clue
Jun 22nd
It is so easy to call in the professionals in just about any area, and have them take care of the work, provided you have the income to cover the expense. Gardens are no exception. Landscaping information not only saves you the time needed to invest in the daily upkeep of a garden, by providing low or no maintenance plant options, but helps you utilize the space to its greatest effect. If you like to entertain often, your garden can be an important feature of your home and in a way an extension of your social life. So don’t just hand over the job to the professionals. By all means hire them, but do some leg work first. Be clear on what your main purpose is for your garden. Is it entertainment or relaxing? Know where your gas and plumbing lines are, or find out, so you can be in the know when work begins. And make the effort to sketch out your own rough plan of where you think you would like to situate your flower beds, trees, and other features like a fountain or barbecue area. If you have an idea of what you want, you’re less likely to be underwhelmed with the end results.
